Laptop processors: Basics you need to know

CPU; you computer’s "brain”, plays a huge role on performance, but depending on your usage, even the cheapest model may be good enough.  Laptop processors confuse even laptop aficionados, so don't feel low, if spec sheets appears alphabet soup to you.

Here are the main components to look out for.

Core i5:

If you wish to get a laptop powered with a great performance and price, then get yourself a laptop which has a Core I5. Models ending with U (ex: Core i5-7200U) are mostly preferred.  Those ending with Y have a low power and offer the worst performance as for models that has a HQ offer cores as many as four. The latest models in the market are powered with the number 7 and are extremely good.

Core i7:

These processors give out the best performance and are meant for gaming purposes. Models ending with HQ or K have four cores and exhausts high wattage, enabling efficient productivity and a faster gaming experience. Also, Core i7 Y series chips possess less performance and lower power.

Core i3:

Performance wise, it is lower than that of Core i5 and is less priced as well.

AMD A, FX or E Series:

Quite less priced, AMD processors give out good performance. Besides, they come with decent media viewing, web surfing and productivity in a reasonable price. 

Atom:

Pocket-friendly,  Atom offers moderate performance but possess better battery life than 

Pentium/Celeron:

Intel Pentium / Celeron: Quite faster than Atom, these have horrible battery life but are relatively cheap.
